Head Lice

Head Lice
For students found to have live adult lice infestation, school clinic personnel will:
  • Exclude students if live lice are found on student's head.
  • School clinic personnel will re-check excluded students on the following school day for live adult lice to determine effective treatment,
  • The school nurse retains authority to exclude a child with repeated infestations where there is evidence of inadequate treatment.
  • A note will be sent home informing parents that lice have been found in the classroom
  • PARENTS: please take the time to inspect your student's head for the prevalence of lice and or nits and use the treatment specifically for lice. Regular shampoo will not kill lice or their eggs. (nits)
  • A special nit come is available and is most helpful in the removal of the nits.
  • A case of head lice is considered "closed" when a live louse or nit has not been seen for 14 days. You need to continue to monitor your student for 2 weeks to make sure that the treatment was successful. Lice are becoming quite resistant to treatment and re-infestations are common due to this resistance.
