The Kennedy Center’s definition is, "...an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both."
By using this approach to teaching, French Elementary is helping all students develop 21st Century skills by actively engaging them to become creative life-long learners. Our fine arts program is integrated across a rigorous academic curriculum. All of our students have the opportunity to demonstrate creativity and innovation as well as critical thinking and problem solving through Art, Music, Dance, Theater and Creative Writing. Our teachers are seeking innovative ways to integrate the arts throughout our curriculum.
Our campus plan is that by the end of the 2018-19 school year, we will be fully integrated in the arts. This year our teachers are attending conferences and trainings and are beginning to incorporate this system into their lessons. Over the next two years, we will bring in trainers to work with our staff and students and we will also bring in guest artists to work specifically with our students.
